You’re a mother you would agree that trying to get your baby to sleep through the night can be challenging. Hhmmm. They wake up to get a feed and after that they just want to play around, pull your hair, your nose etc.
Are you wondering some ways you can help your baby sleep through the night, so you dont fall off your chair while sleeping at work the following day.
Here:
Make their day time feeds very lively and night time routine more calm and cozy, that way the baby would slowly begin to recognise the difference between night and day.
Start with a bath and help them learn a pyjamas routine.-For example after bath, pyjamas, feed, water, the lights go out, and the final pat in the stomach to sleep.
Make sure the enviroment is comfortable. Use light clothing if very hot, encourage entry of fresh air into the room. You may want to pay attention to this with all the generator fumes all around. #GodhelpNigeria. Is the bed sheet dusty?is your baby thirsty? These are questions you would want to deal with before settling your child to bed.
Help them learn to sleep by themselves. You could just lay them down on their back and pat them gently to sleep. This may not be as simple during teething.
For all my children while teething, I had to back ( tie them to my back) them first till they fall asleep, and then later on feed them heavily while asleep during the night to prevent them from waking up and ruining the little hours I have to sleep.
Particularly at those times I sense any plan of waking up (e.g turning around, trying to stretch etc). Another thing you could do is simply target feeding them at their estimated hours between feeds . That way they sleep back immediately after eating. If you don’t know how to back a baby………all I can say is, learn it and your life would never be the same.
5.Help them learn to sleep with a bit of noise or betterstill music. If you are living in the real Nigeria, you would agree with me that it is indeed very noisy, day and night. But if there’s a soft rhyme playing in the background, it would help your baby be distracted from the noise all around. Try the simplesongs collection on you tube, my favorite (just search simplesongs rhymes for children).
Veteran moms, are there others ways you would like to share…..
