When you’ve got soft, supple skin that really glows, you feel healthy. But what happens when you develop dry skin? Dehydrated skin can be sore and uncomfortable, not to mention something that could make people feel self-conscious about their appearance.
The good news is that there are lots of
remedies for dry skin, making it easy for you to restore a natural softness and
glow to your skin.
Moisturize: Moisturising is an external
treatment. It involves frequent application of moisturisers on the problem skin
area. Applying moisturiser on damp skin is more effective. In case of extreme
dry skin, moisturisers containing urea or lactic acid are useful. These
ingredients help the skin in holding and retaining the water and keeping the
skin well hydrated. In mild cases, use warm olive oil or aloe vera and
coconut oil to moisturise your skin.
Change some of your habits: This the most
important factor in case of skin ailments. Most of the severe dry skin problems
like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, etc., can be directly linked to unbalanced,
unhealthy or stressful lifestyle. If you are allergic to some kind of
environment or food that causes dry skin, you should avoid it. Drink around 7-8
Cups of Water on a daily basis to keep the skin hydrated. Limit Alcohol and
caffeine beverages as they dehydrate the body.
Avoid heat, harsh cleanser and soaps: Heat
is an enemy of dry skin as it strips the skin of its moisture. Using hot water
strips the skin of its natural oils, making it dry. Avoid long walks under the
sun. You should replace hot water with warm water, avoid frequent and long
baths. 5-10 minutes in the bath hydrates the skin, but longer than that is bad
for your skin. Harsh soaps and cleansers should also be avoided. Try goats milk
soap for instant relief. It can work wonders for psoriasis and eczema.
Eat healthy: Avoid fried, canned food and eat healthy.
Include plenty of green vegetables and fruits in your diet. A healthy diet is
the key to a good skin. Fish laden with Omega fatty acids is a good source of
moisture and oil that is very good for your skin. Try and include fish in your
diet especially the ones rich in Omega 3 fatty acid. Exercise regularly and you
will not be too far from a glowing skin.
Dress accordingly: Whenever the weather is cold, dress in
layers but prevent overheating and perspiring excessively both can irritate the
skin. Whenever its hot its advisable to wear something light and loose.
To prevent dry, chapped lips, use a very good lip balm. Avoid wearing
synthetic fabrics like polyester. Instead, switch over to 100% cotton fabrics.
Tip: Always have a small or handy body
cream/hand cream in your bag: the reason for this is so you can easily
moisturise whenever you want and as soon as you feel your skin getting dry.
